7 Mile Beach South Course
The South Course at 7 Mile Beach has transformed the Hobart golf conversation. Set among undulating coastal dunes, it is an 18-hole links designed by Mike DeVries and Mike Clayton. The layout uses wide fairways, short-grass surrounds and multiple playing angles rather than relying on excessive bunkering.
The official course description highlights just 37 bunkers, but the challenge comes from wind, dunes, firm ground and the decisions each golfer makes. Several holes return to the ocean’s edge, while elevated sections open views toward Tiger Head Bay and kunanyi / Mount Wellington. It is strategic without being intimidating: newer golfers have room to find fairways, while experienced players have plenty of angles to solve.

Royal Hobart suits golfers who value conditioning, defined hazards and traditional shot-making. A large putting green, chipping area and two practice fairways make it easy to prepare before the round. The championship layout measures 6,214 metres from the men’s championship markers and plays to par 72; the setting makes the wind an important part of club selection and strategy.
Although it is a private members’ club, visitors are welcome throughout the year. Golfers with a current handicap may enter club competitions when places are available, while social visitors can play without a handicap. The club also lists hire clubs, pull buggies and motorised carts, which is helpful for travellers who are not bringing their full kit.
